Building

Spring Has Sprung!?!?

Spring is here, but Spring weather is a little behind. Nevertheless, we’ve been working on several projects in the process of getting a place to live. At the moment, we’re still in the cabin at North Haven Campground. The RV had a problem with the automatic transmission, so we had it towed to Ponderay, about 30 miles south, to get that repaired, and we should be able to pick it up early next week. Then the RV needs to go further south, to Hayden, to get the coach door rebuilt.

The motto on the tow truck reads, “We don’t ask for your arm or your leg, just your tows.”

Meanwhile, we finally settled on a design for a small cabin, had the site for that cleared, and selected a builder. Through most of March it was not possible to get concrete delivered due to something called “breakup”. In the breakup period, the ground is beginning to thaw and heavy trucks can damage the highway, so they restrict speeds and load weights. That recently ended and so we’re looking forward to have a foundation poured in the next few weeks.

We also worked on finalizing the solar build, installing a composting toilet in the RV, and building a fence around what will become our garden. It’s by far the largest garden either of us has ever worked on: about 9000 square feet. We’ll have more posts detailing some these activities in coming days, so keep watching!
