Near Porthill

Our “street” has a new street sign! Continental Lane! No address yet. After we close on it, we have to visit the county recorder and show our (very rudimentary) plan and they will issue a street address: XXX Continental Lane, Bonners Ferry, ID 83805. The US Postal service doesn’t deliver to these addresses, however, so next we have visit the post office in Porthill, about a mile from our property, to get a post office box. That address will be PO Box XXX, Porthill, ID 83853. Interestingly, post office boxes are provided at no charge to people who live in an area that is not serviced by the USPS; however, it costs $10 per year to rent a key so that you can open the box and get your mail!

It’s actually not much of a street; mostly just a cleared trail, wide enough for a vehicle, covered with gravel, and grown over with plants. This area was logged 10 or so years ago and this may have served as a logging road back then. Now the area has been divided into parcels of from 7 to 10 or so acres and put up for sale. The parcel we have a contract on is 7 acres and is completely wooded.

I drove up Continental Lane early this morning, just after sunrise. It was amazingly peaceful and quiet with a bird chirping in the bush next to the road.

Here’s a view looking approximately north up the road. The pink ribbon tied to a tree on the right marks the southwestern corner of “our” property.

The developer has cleared a driveway from Continental Lane to approximately the center of the property. It hasn’t been graded or graveled; that’s something we’ll have to take care of.

The drive ends in a traffic circle or roundabout with this tall pine in the center. We’ve been calling it “Lone Pine Circle.” This is one of the possible spots for our tiny home to be installed.

Here are some photos showing Mary standing where we might put the tiny home and the view from this location. We’ll need to clear out some trees to enhance the view; they’ll later be used to heat our home.
